Telstra is set to cut up to 1400 jobs across the country as part of a deep cost cutting drive.
It is understood Telstra chief executive Andrew Penn will take the unusual step of personally announcing the changes in the mid-afternoon.

Staff are being briefed this morning on the cuts with talks with the union to come later in the week.
At midday, Telstra shares are 0.2 per cent higher at $4.39.
In November, Telstra revealed plans to cut fixed costs by more than $1 billion over the next five years.
